Story & Recommendation
Parade of the cherry-blossom viewing of the old day
Daigoji temple is famous as the cherry blossoms place in Kyoto and it is also ‘Flower Daigo’. Hotaikohanamigyoretu is held at Daigoji temple. Usually during that time, various cherry blossom trees like weeping cherry blossoms, Someiyoshino, Yamasakura or Yaezakura are bloomed in Daigoji temple which is the world heritage site. The origin of ‘Hotaikohanamigyoretsu’ is that Shogun Toyotomi Hideyoshi had planted 700 cherry blossom trees and built Sanpoin and its garden to have a magnificent party in the spring of 1598. 1300 people including Hideyori (his son), his wife or his entourages visited this party. This party leads to current ‘Hotaiko Hanami Gyoretsu’. It is held on the second Sunday of April every year and neighboring areas are crowded with many people all day. In addition to the beautiful cherry blossoms, a parade with people wearing gorgeous costume is the scenery in which we can recognize the Japanese beauty.
