Story & Recommendation
Casual tea ceremony held in the World Heritage Site
Built in 1603, Nijo-jo Castle has a defensive structure to defend against enemy attack. This castle was established in 1603 and used as the official residence of the first Tokugawa Shogun Ieyasu when he stayed in Kyoto. It is also known as a place where "Taisei Hokan" (the restoration of imperial rule) was announced. Each year, the tea ceremony served by different styled tea masters will be held in Nijo-jo Castle. The ticket for the tea ceremony (￥2,600) includes the admission fee for Nijo-jo Castle, Ninomaru Palace which is registered as a National Treasure and beautiful Japanese gardens. With the tickets, you can experience two tea ceremonies and soba noodle while enjoying the beautiful scenery. As this is such an enjoyable event, please feel free to join and experience the Japanese tea ceremony!
On this day, if you purchase the ticket for this tea event, you can look around Nijo-jo Castle. One of the famous spots in Nijo-jo Castle is this beautiful garden called “Seiryu-en”. Please enjoy the beautiful structure of this garden!
Let’s join the tea ceremony
With your ticket, you can experience the two tea ceremonies. It may be crowded with visitors but you will surely enjoy the fine taste of Matcha and Japanese dessert that comes along with the tea. Please check out the beautiful tea cups and plates as their colors are well matched in an autumn season.
