Story & Recommendation
Heian Raku Ichi Market – A massive crafts market just outside the Heian Jingu Shrine
Held on the second Saturday of every month in the Okazaki Park, Heian Raku Ichi is a market of over 250 stalls selling everything from original hand made crafts, pottery and Japanese knick-knacks to treats and even bonsai trees. With so many different stalls spread across such a large area, this market is a great place to enjoy a fun, lively Saturday morning in Kyoto. Being situated in one of Kyoto's staple tourist spots, Heian Jingu Shrine, means that this market is quite popular with visitors from overseas too. The Heian Raku Ichi market is held only once a month, so if you're thinking about going, then make sure you've got your schedule worked out in advance!
