Kyoto International Performing Arts Festival is held in Autumn in Okazaki, Kyoto, city of art.
The Kyoto International Performing Arts Festival has been held every fall since 2010 and is an art festival focusing on theater and exhibits of artwork. Leading artists from within Japan and around the world congregate to perform, dance, show artwork, music, architecture, and more. The Okazaki area, home to Heian Shrine, a famous touristic destination, and also more places in Kyoto are where you will see a range of experimental works. The program each year is based on a different theme to convey messages to society, with works of art. From Oct.22th to Nov.13th, a range of programs are held at various venues. You can check the official web site in advance and find the date and the events that interest you. Kyoto is a unique city where traditional and contemporary culture intermingles. Martin Creed is a contemporary artist from England. Creed is the recipient of the Turner Prize, one of the premier awards for British artists. This season, Creed’s“Work No. 1020 (Ballet)” will be performed, and it is the first piece that he has choreographed. It consists of mainly classic ballet, some talk, video, a band performance with Creed taking vocal, and so on. The program starts at 8:00 PM on Oct.29th and 2:00 PM on Oct.30th. Kinoshita Kabuki Kanjincho
Kabuki is one of Japan's traditional plays. It may seem old and stuffy at the first blush, but Kinoshita Kabuki troupe take in modern interpretations to draw further possibility of traditional performing arts. Their work “Kanjincho” will be performed at the festival. It’s their signature piece and has been recreated from one showed in 2010. This is a chance to see the unique worldview created through the fusion of traditional and contemporary art. The event is held from November 3th to 6th. (Venue: Kyoto Studio 21 Special Seats)
