Story & Recommendation
Last year, around 8,500 people visited the biggest sake event in Kyoto, SAKE Spring, which is going to be held in 2018 too!
This year in April the biggest sake event in Kyoto, SAKE Spring, will be held at Kyoto International Conference Center. Approximately 60 sake breweries with 200 types of sake between them gather together under one roof, and participants are handed a special SAKE Spring sake cup and this in hand they can taste all kinds of sake, so this event is irresistible for sake aficionados. Many restaurants and izakayas so popular that they represent Kyoto, have special food stalls. At these stalls they have special menus by the incredibly popular restaurants of Kyoto, and there is a VIP seating area where you can enjoy traditional Japanese restaurants’ hanami flower viewing bento boxes served by maiko, so at this event you can taste sake and food that goes well with sake until you are completely satisfied. There are other events too, like a corner where a professional sake sommelier can choose a cup of sake for you, and there are panel discussions and on stage live music, so this event can be recommended to sake aficionados as well as sake beginners.
The defining character of this event is that you can taste 200 types of sake with the SAKE Spring sake cup on your hand. Sake breweries as far north as Aomori and south as Fukuoka all gather in Kyoto to show their masterpieces. Beginners as well as aficionados can find a cup of sake to their liking at this event. *To buy sake you need to have SAKE Spring sake tickets that come with the ticket to the event.
Snacks offered by restaurants representing Kyoto
On the day of the event it’s not only sake you can taste, but also snacks and food that go well with sake. The restaurants representing Kyoto gather at this event, and offer food that brings out the taste of sake even more, like traditional Kyoto cuisine, izakaya fare, Italian, French, and Korean food, and all kinds of superb dishes. *To buy food you need to have SAKE Spring food tickets that come with the ticket to the event.
Various other entertainment events
There is a special stage at the event where there are panel discussions with people who work at the breweries. Many of these events can also be enjoyed by those who have not drunk so much sake before. It may be fun to listen to music and watch movies while being slightly intoxicated.
