Story & Recommendation
See What Japan’s Biggest Vegan Food Festival Has to Offer
Japan’s Vegan Gourmet Festival brings great local vegan food stalls and the country's growing vegan community together in one place. Every stall is entirely vegan, so you won’t find any meat, fish, dairy, eggs, honey or other animal products at the event. Started in Nagoya in 2011, this festival eventually made its way to Kyoto in 2015 and Tokyo in 2016. This year’s Vegan Gourmet Festival – Kyoto will be held on Nov. 3 near Kyoto Station in Umekoji Park. Whether you’re vegan or just looking for some tasty healthy food, this awesome food fest should definitely be on your next Kyoto itinerary.
1Highlight
Vegan Burger
Vegan Burger
This kick-ass vegan burger uses entirely plant-based ingredients that give it a meaty juiciness and texture. The light flavors of the veggies also make this burger easy on both the mind and body.
2Highlight
Desserts
Desserts
Compared to so-called regular desserts, vegan desserts are relatively low in both fat and cholesterol. Also, as a lot of places utilize the natural sweetness of the ingredients instead of refined sugar, vegan sweets are generally lower in sugar too. Containing no eggs or dairy, vegan desserts are perfectly safe for those with specific allergies, and thanks to being generally healthier, are great for those on diets too.
- Manner & Tips -

The Vegan Gourmet Festival is usually quite crowded, so we recommend getting there early. If you’re in Kyoto with friends or family, bring them too and enjoy the beautiful Umekoji Park while you’re at it.
