The most famous and probably the most mysterious spot in Arashiyama is the Bamboo Grove
One of the symbols of Arashiyama is the bamboo grove. Walking through a bamboo grove is definitely not something that you can encounter every day. Bamboos in Arashiyama grow thick and strong giving shades to cool down the summer heat while letting in beams of sunshine during winter for warmth. Walking the entire path will take approximately 10 minutes. But we suggest giving yourself enough time to go to the surrounding sightseeing spots on your way to or back from the path.
Be surrounded by bamboos and rejoice!
Looking up at the bamboos, you will see a glimpse of beaming sunlight in between the leaves. Enjoy a relaxing stroll through the path. Notice that the bamboo grove is fenced with dried bamboos giving the bamboos a clean-cut border between the path. Listen to the sounds of leaves waving as the wind passes by. The bamboo grove will give you an opportunity to be in touch with the beautiful nature of Arashiyama. I recommend you to go early in the morning or during sunset on weekdays to avoid the crowd!
Take A Route Through Tenryu-ji Temple
Go through Tenryu-ji temple on your way to the bamboo grove. With an entrance fee of \500, you can visit Tenryu-ji temple from the main street of Arashiyama, and then head over to the bamboo grove by the exiting the temple from the back as pictured on the left. If you are coming from Randen Arashiyama station, it takes about six minutes to Tenryu-ji Temple entrance if you walk.
Take A Picture Inside The Bamboo Grove
At any point in the bamboo grove, taking a picture will come out to be an exciting memento of your trip. Surrounding yourself with these tall bamboos will make your height non-comparable. Here you can confirm with your own eyes that bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world!
