An Art Gallery inside the JR Kyoto Station Isetan Department Store
On the 7th floor of the Isetan department store is an art gallery with monthly exhibitions. The variety of exhibitions means even frequent visitors can enjoy it. Have a look to see if any of the scheduled exhibitions peak your interest, as most of them are must-sees! As the art gallery’s located right inside Kyoto Station, it’s perfect for those with a few moments to spare before hopping on a train and just wanting to have a brief look.
Check out the exhibitions going on. Information is available online or grab a pamphlet at the entrance of the gallery if you’re in the area. You could also take a glimpse of the exhibition being held while you’re at it. Walk around the back of the gallery for the entrance and front counter for the exhibition.
The types of exhibitions vary throughout the year. For example, the manga artist, Machiko Hasegawa’s month long exhibition displayed her works in chronological order and was paired with the projected visual of her work desk showing the process of her manga creation. In the past, an exhibition for a Japanese jokey was held in celebration of his 30th anniversary in the sport. In September and October of 2016, an exhibition of Kanjiro Kawai, a Japanese potter born in 1890 was also held. A Wide range of exhibitions can be enjoyed throughout the year.
Pay with a Transit Card
Pay the entrance fee with an IC transit card such as ICOCA, Suica, PASMO, etc, to get 200 yen off the entrance fee. The cost of entrance depends on the exhibition. Children under elementary school age are free to enter.
