Over 400 cherry blossoms bloom like a rug of flowers all season long
Hirano Shrine is famous as the place where more than 60 species of cherry blossom and approximately 400 trees are planted. Among them, 10 are uncommon species of cherry blossom and special to this shrine. Especially the sakigake sakura cherry blossom that can be seen from the main gate is said to signal the start of the cherry blossom season in Kyoto when it blooms. The blooming period differs according to the type of cherry blossoms, but it’s typically between late March and the end of April, so you can see the icon of Japan, sakura, for at least 1 month. The shrine offers some items that are related to cherry blossoms such as a paper fortune, ema wooden tablet (to write your wishes on it in order to come true), and more. They are all fun items to get on your visit. Places such as Kinkaku-ji Temple and Kitano Tenmangu Shrine are easy to access from Hirano Shrine. If you would like to visit several temples or shrines in a short period of time, Hirano Shrine is the place to start.

Hirano Shrine is famous as a great place for viewing cherry blossoms. There are about 400 cherry trees in the shrine and when they bloom the shrine instantly surrounded by a pink cloud of cherry blossoms. This is a quiet shrine but since it's close to both Kinkaku-ji Temple and Kitano Tenmangu Shrine it's easy to visit. They also sell cute fortune slips that are held on the tail of an earthenware squirrel, so I hope you will also check those out!
