A Museum with many ancient works of art
The Hosomi Museum was founded in March 1998 and is located in Kyoto's eastern district of Okazaki. The museum is based on the collection of Hosomi Ryo with 1000 works of Japanese art. Items include Heian and Kamakura Buddhist/Shinto art, Muromachi paintings, lacquer ware, tea ceremony kettles, Momoyama ceramics, as well as Edo paintings.
The exhibit room has collections made up of works from the ancient to middle periods (4th-16th centuries). In addition to that, early modern period (16th-19th centuries) works are also available. The work pictured is one of these ancient pieces.
The Art cube shop has original museum goods, trendy Japanese style items, accessories, and various art-books. Please check the store if you have the time.
The tea room was designed by Nakamura Sotoji with a traditional Sukiya architecture style. Every day, tea and sweets are offered and you can join in and experience tea ceremonies. Reservations are required in advance.
The café has a contemporary design and is located in the courtyard of the museum. Sometimes, weddings or private receptions are held here too.
