A zoo where you can get familiar with the Animals
The main theme of the Kyoto City Zoo is a “familiar and enjoyable zoo.” The word “familiar” in the theme has 2 meanings. The first meaning is that Kyoto City Zoo is located in the center of Kyoto and the second is the closeness of the animals and customers. The word “Enjoyable” is a message for both animals and customers.

Kyoto-no-mori
Kyoto-no-mori opened in September, 2015. It is an exhibition where you can learn about the relationship between natural animals and humans. The exhibition provides information about nature and it helps you to learn about the conservation of the natural environment.

The exhibition room has exhibits of old animals that lived in the park. There are skeletons and stuffed animals.

The library cafe has approximately 7,000 books. You can read the books while drinking coffee. Please relax in the cafe with a book and a delicious coffee.

The zoo was refurbished in 2015 so the roads here are nice to walk on! They also have many specialties like the area where you can see giraffes from their point of view, from a viewing platform, There is a corner where you can touch goats and other animals, and there is also a small amusement park so this is a nice place for families.

Directions [Kyoto city bus] Take No. 5, 32, 100 (Raku-Bus) to "Doubutsuen-Mae" Take No. 31, 201, 202, 203, 206 to "Higashiyama Nijo," then walk to the east for 5 minutes Take No. 93, 203, 204 to "Okazakimichi," then walk to the south for 5 minutes [Subway] From Keihan Line, transfer at "Keihan Sanjo"station to subway Tozai Line. Walk to the zoo for 5 minutes from "Keage" station, or 10 minutes from "Higashiyama" station. From JR Kyoto station, take subway Karasuma Line and transfer at "Karasuma Oike" to subway Tozai Line. Walk to the zoo for 5 minutes from "Keage" station, or 10 minutes from "Higashiyama" station.
Open Hours March - Nov. 9am - 5pm December - Feb. 9am - 4:30pm *Entrance and use of the eastern gate is allowed until 30 minutes before closing time.

Closed Mondays (or the following Tuesday if Monday falls on a holiday) / New Year's period (from Dec. 28th - Jan. 1st)
