Story & Recommendation
Gaze through the whole of Kyoto city from this symbolic tower!
Established in 1964, Kyoto Tower has been one of the most famous landmarks of Kyoto for many years. Its unique figure was made in the image of a lighthouse. Different from the Eiffel Tower and Tokyo Tower, Kyoto Tower is not made with a steel frame. Instead of a steel frame, special steel plate cylinders are connected by welding to make this round shape. Inside the tower, there are souvenir shops, a 100 yen store called Daiso on the 2nd floor, and several kinds of restaurant on various floors. There is also a public bathhouse in the basement, so you might want to check it after out looking over Kyoto at the top of the tower.
The City of Kyoto (from the tower)
In order to go up the tower, first you need to buy a ticket on the 1st floor of the tower. It costs ￥770 for an adult and ￥520 for a child. Then, please take the elevator to the 11th floor where you can take another elevator to the top of the tower. Once you have arrived at the observation deck, you can look through the whole city of Kyoto. You can find the locations of famous tourist spots by the stickers on the window.
For those who are not familiar with the term ema, it is a votive picture originally of a horse. It is believed that the things you write on ema will come true. In Kyoto Tower, you can also try writing a Kyoto Tower exclusive ema. Please put ￥300 in the box before you write it.
Purikura - Photo Booth
If you are not familiar with the term Purikura, this is a photo booth that prints out your photos. Japan is very famous for this kind of photo booth in recent years. The scene behind you in the photo is Kyoto Tower, so it can be a great souvenir from visiting Kyoto Tower!
