Make your own original pottery in 40 minutes
This pottery establishment, located about 2-minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera Temple, has a history of 120 years. Pottery experiences are held there every day. Participants can create their own original pottery under the gentle instruction of the potters working there, including mugs, plates, tea cups and so on. It takes around 40 minutes from start to finish. The Shop Attached To The Workshop
"Kiyomizu-yaki" is a traditional kind of pottery from Kyoto made at the workshop and sold at the attached store, which also sells other accessories featuring Japanese designs. Items of Kiyomizu-yaki are popular as ornaments, too.
Foods that are just perfect for eating while walking as you tour around are available for purchase. The most recommended item are the manju, which are made with Kyoto Beef, available for 450 yen each. A must-eat item after your pottery experience.
Make Original Pottery
Make your own pottery with clay and a hand-operated potter’s wheel. You can start your creation after receiving a lecture from an instructor. The instructions are written down in a guidebook, so anybody can enjoy making their own marvelous creations.

It’s recommended to get a simple idea of what kind of pottery you’d like to make such as a mug, a plate, and the shape of it before you begin. The pottery that are on sale at the shop can be an excellent source of inspiration for your own creation.

The price varies depending on the amount of clay used to make the pottery. Clay 600g ¥2,680：It is possible to make a rice bowl or teacup size. Clay 1kg ¥3,390：It is possible to make a matcha bowl or beer mug size. Clay 1.4kg ¥4,120：It is possible to make a great work. *A separate shipping fee to ship the pottery to your home will be assessed. Overseas shipping takes approximately 60 days.
