Story & Recommendation
A thrilling attraction in the beautiful scenery of the great outdoors
We recommend that if you visit the tourist spot Arashiyama, that you take part in the Sagano Romantic Train & Hozu-gawa River Boat Ride. The Sagano Romantic Train is a diesel train that runs through the valleys. From the windows you can see nature that’s beautiful all year round and picturesque mountain streams running under bridges. A one way trip takes 25 minutes. The entrance to the Hozu-gawa River Boat Ride is only 20 minutes by bus from Kameoka Torokko Station. Hop on a little boat in the middle of the great outdoors, surrounded by mountains. The thrill of descending the fast waters of the mountain river is outstanding. A trip takes around 2 hours. The final stop is close to Arashiyama Togetsukyo. From there you can enjoy a delightful stroll in Arashiyama.

The View from the Romantic Sagano Train
The view from the romantic Sagano train is beautiful in all seasons. It's brilliant with cherry blossoms in spring, verdant with green in summer, blazing with fall leaves in autumn and elegant with snow in the winter. The beautiful mountain river is a must-see.

The Movements of the Hozu-gawa River Boatmen
The flow of the river during the Hozu-gawa River Boat Ride is mainly calm, but there are 5 or 6 more lively segments. At those times, the 3 to 5 boatmen cooperate to use their rods to keep the boat balanced. Their agile movements are quite a sight!

Take a Picture of the Sagano Romantic Train
The Sagano Romantic Train has a delightful black, red, and gold finish on an angular shape. It’s definitely worth taking a picture of the trains at Torokko Saga Station! It gets busy, so please take care around others and the trains.

Grab a Bite or a Drink from the Boat Shop
At the end of your Hozu-gawa River Boat Ride, there is a boat shop selling dumplings, grilled squid, oden, beer, and juice. It’s all the tastier when enjoyed in the cool breeze on your boat. Snacks cost between ￥200 and ￥500, and drinks between ￥200 and ￥400.

[Sagano Romantic Train] You can take some perfect shots of the Sagano Romantic Train when it’s approaching the platform. On the other hand, please be considerate of other visitors and not get too close to the train or you might get hurt.
[Hozu-gawa River Boat Ride] Jumping up and down on the boat is dangerous. Please follow the rules, sit down, and please keep quiet as much as possible on the boat.
