Story & Recommendation
Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine is beautiful every season of the year
Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine is located close to Hankyu Nagaoka Tenjin Station, and the shrine enshrines the god of learning, Sugawara no Michizane, who was originally a scholar who excelled in both poetry and politics. Because of this, the shrine is often visited by students praying for success in their tests and people applying for jobs who wish to heighten their chances of getting work. The temple is vast and you get to freely walk around it, and there are normally not that many people at the temple. Besides the cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, the temple is also famous for its Kirishima azaleas that bloom in late April. The Kirishima azaleas of this temple are not white or pink like many other azaleas, but the Kirishima azaleas bloom in majestic, vivid reds which are of such beauty that the sight of them will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Hachijogaike Pond
Hachijogaike Pond
Hachijogaike Pond can be seen on the east side of the temple grounds. The huge pond is actually manmade, and its history dates back to the year 1638. The scenery you can see from the pier over the pond is especially beautiful during the cherry blossom, azalea, and autumn leaves seasons.

Pet the bull statue and get wiser
Pet this bronze bull, and by petting it, it is said you will get wiser. No matter whether you have an exam coming or not, try petting the bull!
4Good Experiences
Kinkei-en Garden
Kinkei-en Garden
This garden was finished in 2007, so it’s pretty new. The Kinkei-en Garden is a place where you get to admire the beautiful autumn leaves, and there’s a stone bridge over the small pond in the middle, which is a great place to have your picture taken.
