A variety of colorful, handcrafted confectionery
The 150-year-old wagashi (Japanese confectionery) store Kanshundo Higashi is a short walk from the popular Kiyomizu temple and Sanjusangen-do sightseeing locations. The old, mainly wooden interior welcomes you with a distinctively Japanese atmosphere. All of the store’s wagashi is handmade by skilled craftspeople. You can watch them working at the back of the store. They use high-quality ingredients and water, and follow traditional recipes that have been handed down through generations. Higashi (a type of dry wagashi) is especially popular among overseas visitors thanks to its colorful variety and eye-catching appearance. Alongside mochi (rice cakes), manju (sweet bean paste wrapped in mochi, etc.), and senbei (rice cookies), you can also find unique wagashi invented by the store. The wide range of confectionery on display is enough to make anyone happy. The store also offers wagashi-making workshops. We recommend booking these in advance, as they are very popular.
Higashi assortment box / ￥800～(+tax)
An assortment of colorful higashi with shapes inspired by flowers, fruit, food, and other motifs. The content varies according to season. The price depends on the quantity. Higashi can also be purchased individually by piece. They last for about two months.
Namagashi (raw wagashi) / ￥400～(+tax)
These small cakes made using anko (sweet bean paste) can be called works of art. They come in beautiful forms and colors, and are offered at a reasonable price, too. The range changes with the seasons. These types of wagashi last for a relatively short period—around three days. Make sure to eat them as soon as possible after purchase.

Daibutsu Mochi / ￥120/1pieces (+tax)
This is the store’s flagship product, made using high-quality mochi rice and a recipe kept unchanged since the founding of the store. The outer mochi is deliciously soft and sticky, creating a good harmony with the inner sweet bean paste, which has just the right degree of sweetness.
