Story & Recommendation
Have a high-grade Japanese cuisine at home
Wakuden Sakaimachi consists of 2 kinds of sections, Omotase for shopping (1F), Japanese tea room (2F). Omotase is very popular for locals as they would like you to enjoy delicate Japanese cuisine that is provided of the same as at the restaurant, at your home. They offer lots of original Japanese sweets as well as fairly colorful lunch box. The elegant head staff and assistants wearing Kimono kindly welcome you at traditional modern surroundings. They have several branches in Japan. Unique seared mackerel sushi, which is a specialty sushi of Kyoto, is available here and at other branches. Eating it is a really brilliant opportunity to enjoy its luxury taste at a reasonable price.
1Recommend!
Rencon (lotus root) Sweets Seiko
Rencon (lotus root) Sweets Seiko / ¥270 for 1
It is made from Wasanbon (fine Japanese sugar) and starch of lotus root. Extremely sticky texture will surprise you! A faint fragrance of bamboo leaves is a good accent. You can buy it from one piece, and a nice packing box is available according to how many you want.
2Recommend!
Azuki (red beans) Crackers
Azuki (red beans) Crackers / ¥1,836 for 7 packs in 3
Ingredients are just only red beans from the north of Kyoto, Kyotango, an area known for its Azuki production. They are made by pressing beans carefully and softly. The longer you chew it, the more flavorsome it becomes. These red bean crackers have no food additive even salt and sugar.
3Check it out!
Saba-zushi (mackerel sushi)
Saba-zushi (mackerel sushi) / ¥1,620
It is sold at Wakuden Kyoto locations: Sakaimachi branch, Daitokuji, and JR Kyoto Isetan. Seared mackerel with kelp has excellent aroma. Boiled rice with light soy sauce brings out the taste of sweetness.
