Story & Recommendation
A Buddhist rosary shop that you can access easily in Kyoto
Established in 1683, Yasuda-nenjuten has been offering various denominations’ Buddhist rosaries. This shop is located in Shopping Mall Kyoto Porta where is directly connected to Kyoto Station and once you step into the shop, you may notice the smell of incense. If you like the smell, you can also purchase it here. There are tons of selections of Buddhist rosaries and each one of them has a meaning and denomination that they belong to. Recently, even foreign tourists would wear it as an accessory, so if you are open-minded about any belief, it is a good choice of a souvenir.

In this section, there are several kinds of denominations’ Buddhist rosaries. Depending on the denominations, believers use simplified or formal prayer beads. Formal prayer beads have 108 beads which represent evil passions. Each one of them has a meaning, so if you are interested in that, please feel free to ask the staff.

Isn’t it interesting that each rosary has a character inside? It is nice to wear it as a remembrance of the trip of Japan. The feeling of the wood is very comfortable and it would fit into your wrist as you wear it.

Incense
Incense / ¥972
It is a very cute and unique incense. Usually when you use a incense, you need to burn it first. However, this incense doesn’t require any fire as you put an oil to an incense so that it can gradually emit an odor. It is very safe especially for those who have small children.
How to buy
Please simply bring the items to the cashier.
