Story & Recommendation
Benciny is a craft chocolate shop selling only handmade chocolate with a cacao percentage of over 70%
You can find the craft chocolate shop Benciny close to Heian Shrine, in a place just a stone throw away from Okazaki Canal which is famous as a place to see the cherry blossoms in spring. They buy their cacao beans from Vietnam, Peru, and Columbia, among other countries, and their chocolate is completely made by hand, from start to finish, from the roasting of the beans to wrapping of the finished product. Because this takes a lot of time, the shop is only open for three days a week. Different beans and different recipes make different chocolate have different levels of sourness, bitterness, and sweetness. All of the chocolate made by Benciny contains at least 70 % of cocoa, so you can taste the real taste of the cocoa beans in their chocolate. The kinds of chocolate they have on sale change daily, and at most they have seven types on sale in one day. It’s always exciting to go see what kinds of chocolate they’re selling just today. The taste can be habit-forming!

Ghana
Ghana / ¥1,000 (plus tax)
When you hear the world chocolate, many people may think of creamy milk chocolate. But this 70% cocoa chocolate has some of that sweetness and creaminess, the sweet aftertaste of the chocolate beans. This is great for those who don’t want their chocolate to be too bitter.
2Recommend!
Columbia
Columbia / ¥1,800 (plus tax)
The chocolate beans from Columbia make this chocolate taste a bit sour, but also have a nice fruity taste to it. The sourness in this chocolate is something new, something you don’t often find in chocolate. It’s an interesting taste, and definitely worth a try.
3Check it out!
Togo
Togo / ¥1,300 (plus tax)
This chocolate tastes a bit like Ghana, you can taste the milk in it, and it has a bit of fruitiness to it. What separates this from Ghana is the extra nuttiness in the taste.
4Check it out!
BENCINY bag / cooler bag
BENCINY bag / cooler bag / ¥500 (plus tax) / ¥2,000 (plus tax)
The small canvas bag is cute, and it can also be given to someone as a present. The cooler bag is useful in summer; it helps keep your chocolate cool.
