Story & Recommendation
Get all kinds of zakka made in Kyoto at Bougatei by the Philosopher’s Walk
Bougatei is in a renovated old house that is Tiffany blue, and inside this house they sell all kinds Japanese zakka items, many of which are made in Kyoto, like frame purses, hair ornaments, and tenugui hand towels. The feeling inside the store is not only Japanese, but also very Kyoto-like. But what’s best about this store is how cute their Shiba purses are! The first batch of them already sold out, and they’re currently selling the second batch. The store is in the busy sightseeing area around the Philosopher’s Walk, and their products are so Japanese that the store is a hit among foreign visitors. The service here is very friendly, and the overall atmosphere at the store makes you feel at home. It’s easy to spend quite a lot of money at this store, but who could say no to a Shiba?

Plastic bottle sock
/ ¥1,200 (+tax)
These cute plastic bottle socks have – wait for it – cats on them! This is the best-selling product of this store, and all of the cats are a bit different and unique. This sock will protect your bag if the bottle inside the sock leaks, and it looks cute too. It also keeps your drink warm.
