Story & Recommendation
Sample a range of oils and vinegars and find your favorite
OIL & VINEGAR is an oil and vinegar specialty shop with 200 locations worldwide. Their flagship store in Japan opened in Tokyo's Ginza district, and it was followed up by the OIL & VINEGAR Kyoto Store. In addition to the finest quality olive oil, they carry flavored oils, vinegars, herbs, and spice mixes, among other items that will enhance your meals. The olive oils and vinegars come in numerous varieties, and each and every one of them can be sampled. We invite you to try them for yourself and find one that suits your taste. Items are available for purchase in quantities as small as 100ml, another plus. There are also some Japanese ingredients in stock, so these are worth a look, too. The shop is located in the center of Kyoto at the COCON KARASUMA shopping facility near the Shijo-Karasuma crossroads. They're open until 8PM, so this would make a perfect place to visit at the end of a long day.

You will find a selection of fine olive oils from Italy, Greece, Spain, and South Africa. Extra virgin olive oils are made by pressing the olives immediately after they are picked, so they are extremely fresh. Flavoured oils contain the rich aroma of orange, lemon, and other ingredients.
We recommend the Castello Zacro Olive oil, an extra virgin olive oils from Greece. The subtle bitterness pairs well with marinades and salads. You will also find products that pair with pastas, meat, and seafood.

You will find vinegars from Italy, Germany, and South Africa. One great approach is to blend them with oil. Our recommendation is the Balsamico Modena IGP, from Modena in Italy. The mellow sweetness of this item pairs well with pasta sauces and meat dishes. The Fig Crema Vinegar, from Mosel, Germany, features the flavor of figs. It can be put on vanilla ice cream or mixed with sparkling water, among other uses.

Bruschetta

This seasoning contains dried tomatoes, spices, and other ingredients. Soak it in hot water for one minute and then mix with olive oil. It can be spread on bread, mixed into pasta sauce or omelettes, and put on salads and seafood, to name a few. Of the three varieties, the most popular is the Bruschetta Originale.
The sweetness of the tomatoes gives way to the fragrance of garlic and herbs, enhancing any meal. There is also the Bruschetta Pomodoro, which has a clean, brisk taste free of garlic.

OROBAILEN-Extra Virgin Olive Oils
/ ¥4,500 *Prices are pre-tax
This olive oil is made from rare and luxury olives picked early, before the fruit fully ripens. This oil has won numerous awards in Spain, the largest producer of olive oil in the world. The taste of the olive is front and center, providing a unique taste. This oil can be sampled, so we highly suggest you check it out.
How to buy
Many of the products, among them the oil and vinegar, can be sampled. We recommend trying a range of items to compare their various flavors.
When making your purchase, first select your desired item. Next, you get to select from jars of different sizes. They will then pour the oil and vinegar into that jar.
- Shopping Tips -
- Take empty jars back to the store to have them refilled.
- Tell the staff what dishes you plan to use oil and vinegar in and they will find products best suited to that purpose.
