Kitagawahonke Okinaya in Fushimi is a sake shop that has been in the sake business for over 350 years, famous for their sake called Tomio
The history of Kitagawahonke Okinaya begun in the year 1657, and at this historic sake shop you can not only buy their most famous sake, Tomio, but you can also get shochu and umeshu (plum liquor). The shop is in a machiya-style building full of the historic atmosphere of Kyoto, and on their shelves you can see many types of sake, like their famous Tomio. You can also sample their sake here, so you can see if you really like it. Their plum liquor with gyokuro tea got the gold award in a Japanese competition, and it’s a sure hit among women. After you walk through the Fushimi shopping street, it’s not even a 5-minute walk to Okinaya, a place we can heartily recommend to those into sake.
Tomio Daiginjo 720ml

This sake is made 100% from a type of rice made especially for sake brewing called Yamada Nishiki, all grown in the close by Hyogo Prefecture. The rice polishing ratio of Tomio Daiginjo is 39 percent, and the sake is very easy to drink. This sake can be drunk either cold or warmed up to around 40 degrees.
Unrefined Tomio Junmai-Daiginjo

This sake tastes freshly made, it has some flowery notes with a strong taste. The impact of this sake is strong, and it’s a sake that’s hard to forget. Umeshu set with 5 180ml bottles

This set contains five different types of umeshu: yatsuhashi (cinnamon), yuzu (a Japanese citrus fruit), Hannari (Kyoto-style umeshu), Uji Gyokuro (highest grade of green tea), and shiso (a Japanese herb). All of these umeshu liquors have a strong Kyoto-taste to them, but the Uji Gyokuro umeshu got a gold award in a Japanese competition in 2017.
