Ecological take-out food in the heart of Kyoto with a choice of 20 types of sauces and a spoon you can eat at Potetonchi
Potetonchi is a completely new type of a deli in Kyoto, located centrally within a walking distance from both Hankyu Karasuma Station and subway Karasuma Oike Station. As many of you know, many Japanese shops and restaurants pack their food in many layers of paper and plastic, and give you many kinds of utensils and small packs of condiments too. As this creates a lot of waste, Potetonchi does away with all of this. At Potetonchi, even the spoon is edible! When you buy a smashed potato dish at Potetonchi, you only have to throw away the napkin!
Potetonchi is maybe the most ecological deli in Kyoto.

The smashed potato here is served in a finger food form, as even the bowl it’s served in is edible. They have 20 different choices for sauces, but the most popular ones are the tacos one and the raclette cheese one. You won’t go wrong with either one.
Japanese-style mashed potato with white miso & mentaiko
If you want something a bit more Kyoto-esque, we recommend you go with the white miso or mentaiko (spicy cod roe). They are both delicious; the white miso has a refined flavor whereas the mentaiko packs a punch.

The spoons at Potetonchi are not only edible, but they are also absolutely delicious. They contain potato peels so they’re also very healthy. They are so good that many people ask if they could buy them to eat as a kind of potato cookie by themselves, but unfortunately as they’re all handmade they cannot be sold as-is at the moment.
