For all your French crepe needs in Kyoto, you have Crepe Shop Sanjiya Kawaramachi
When you think of crepes, most of the people in Japan think of Shinjuku in Tokyo, but did you know that you can have great crepes in Kyoto too? And because we’re in Kyoto, you can, of course, have matcha crepes too! And not only can you have the crepes topped with matcha, you can also enjoy matcha crepes with the dough itself containing matcha! So everything is green! One of the specialties of this crepe shop is their prices, as they’re very low, and start at only 330 yen. You can also customize your crepe, so if you want to add something to it, or want to have it made from the green matcha dough, that’s no problem.
Kyoto matcha parfait crepe

Kyoto matcha parfait crepe / ¥550
This matcha parfait crepe must be the dream of every matcha lover on earth. They use matcha powder made by the famous Gion Tsujiri, so not only is this crepe green, it’s also very authentic. Even the toppings are matcha flavored!
Banana-strawberry-chocolate crepe

Banana-strawberry-chocolate crepe / ¥500
Banana-strawberry-chocolate crepe, even the name of it sounds delicious. There’s no way this combination could be bad, so this is a very safe choice for those who don’t want something that Japanese. It’s just delicious!
Tiramisu with soft serve crepe

Tiramisu with soft serve crepe / ¥480
Tiramisu is a delicacy by itself, but when you can have it with soft serve and in a crepe, it’s even better. The way the soft serve goes with the tiramisu is exceptional, and this is made even better because you’re eating a crepe!
Natto & rice crepe

Natto & rice crepe / ¥450
Natto is fermented soybeans, and when you take natto, rice, green onion, and seaweed paste, you have something beautiful in your hands. This crepe surprisingly is pretty good, especially since you get a generous amount of mayo with it. Recommended for those who want to try natto in Japan!
How to buy

The crepes here are all made using safe ingredients, so even children can eat it, as you can see from this picture of the manager’s child eating a crepe! Isn’t he cute?

When it comes to having a nice crepe in Kyoto, there are few places with as many choices as Sanjiya offers you. I especially liked the way they use a lot of fruit on their crepes, so with your banana crepe, you really do get a lot of banana! But the star of the show here has to be the matcha parfait crepe. It just contains so much matcha, and for a matcha parfait, 550 yen is a really cheap price.

You get to enjoy great crepes for a reasonable price at Sanjiya, and they have all kinds of crepes on the menu, from classics to savory ones like their natto crepe. Their crepes are big, and you can even change the dough to a matcha one, or add toppings to the crepes, or add soft serve to them. It’s nice that you get to see how they cook the crepes too. The crepes are ready in seconds!
