Story & Recommendation
Slurps for a single Udon noodle
Are you familiar with Udon? It’s a popular noodle dish enjoyed in all parts of Japan and abroad as well. You may be familiar with Udon, but have you ever had a bowl of Udon containing just one long thick noodle? Tawaraya is a well-established shop featuring their famous Tawaraya Udon, a long thick Udon noodle in hot broth with side of grated ginger. The Udon is not the only unique part of this shop. By the entrance is “chashitsu,” or room designed for Japanese tea ceremonies. Also by the entrance is a well – once an important part of people’s everyday life however, not being used today. This is a one and only Udon shop in Kitano Tenmangu shrine that many people stop by on the way or after visiting the shrine.

Notice the flavorful broth exhibiting perfect tint of color giving impact even though the bowl itself is simple. Add the grated ginger according to taste.
