Story & Recommendation
Miyako Yasai offers a wonderful buffet of organic vegetables
Often in Kyoto, it feels like you are not eating enough vegetables. But luckily there is a place in Kyoto where you can fix this, Miyako Yasai Kamo. The restaurant located in a stylish old town house offers seasonal vegetables grown in Kyoto, and it’s so popular there is often a line in front of its doors. They offer all kinds of vegetables and foods such as fried chicken and Hayashi rice, and for lunch they also have pita bread! And what’s best, you get to eat as much as you want! There is something for everyone here, and while the food is healthy, it’s also delicious! So, let’s see what they have to offer!
[Owner's comment]
“Miyako vegetables” grown in Kyoto and harvested in the morning are the leading part! You can also enjoy the chef’s special “Obanzai” side dishes made with miyako vegetables and the freshly picked “Hatake field bar”. The “Hatake field bar” serves miyako vegetables (vegetables grown in Kyoto) picked that day.
The miyako vegetables used in the dishes are collected by the head chef and staff in cooperation with farms, or directly sent from the farms. Therefore, the lineup changes depending on the seasons and harvest conditions.
The “Obanzai” also includes a menu featuring organic miyako vegetables from Kyoto that are pesticide-free, or with reduced pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and which are prepared and served with the vegetables of the day in a dish that makes them taste their best. There is a seasonal standard menu, as well as an "only for the day menu" that uses rare vegetables.
In addition, it is possible to enjoy delicious vegetables with other products such as “karaage” deep-fried food, or udon noodles.

Salad bar

The salad bar here is one of the most popular aspects of this restaurant, as should be evident from the Japanese word for vegetable, yasai, also being in the name of it. The choices you have change seasonally, but they also have some great salad dressing such as yuzu-citrus and grapefruit, among others. These salad dressings together with the fresh, seasonal vegetables make this buffet an experience you won’t forget.

Here you have all kinds of dishes representing Kyoto home cooking, like dried strips of daikon, hijiki-seaweed, freeze dried Koya-dofu, bean sprouts in a pork bones soup, and of course macaroni salad. I especially liked the Koya-dofu, the pieces were big and juicy. Be sure to also try hijiki and soy beans too, they’re healthy!
How to Order

Right after going into the restaurant, you should see this ticket vending machine on your right side. Choose what you are going to have, breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and you can also get a ticket for the soda fountain and alcoholic beverages from here. The soda fountain is included in the breakfast price.

- Order Tips -

Because this is an eat-all-you-can type restaurant, some people take too much food, and can’t finish it. So be sure to take only as much as you can eat, and after eating, remember to return your plates and cups.
