Story & Recommendation
Kyoto Station is the transport hub of Kyoto, but also one of the biggest buildings in Japan
Kyoto Station is the biggest transportation hub in Kyoto, and indeed one of the biggest in the whole of Japan. The train station is surprisingly modern for this ancient capital, and there are also a surprising number of ways in which this station and the area around it can be enjoyed during your vacation. The first Kyoto Station was built in 1877, and the present Kyoto Station is the fourth one. The station serves a dizzying array of train lines, you can take the bullet train, Shinkansen, or the normal JR lines, but there is also a Kyoto Municipal subway station and Keihan station too, so no matter where you want to go in Kyoto, it’s easy to get to there from Kyoto Station. And in case there is no train line that goes to where you want to go, you can always take a bus, since Kyoto Station is also a bus terminal. Kyoto Station is not only transportation, but also an architectural masterpiece and a place where there is a lot to do. You can go to the top floor of the station and to the bamboo garden named “Happy Terrace,” or you can go have a bowl of ramen by some of the best Japanese ramen chains in Ramen Koji, or maybe you would like to view the scenes and the Kyoto Tower from up high from the Skyway.
